  • Position Information

    The Supervisor/Liquefied Natural Gas Plant is responsible for overseeing the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the Southwest Gas Corporation Tucson Arizona Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Plant and providing specialized operations, security and emergency response training to ensure safe, reliable natural gas supply required to meet the needs of its customers in compliance with established regulatory rules and regulations and Company policies and procedures.  This position has responsibility for developing, implementing and updating the plant’s policies and procedures; researching, specifying and purchasing equipment and materials; and training and qualifying plant personnel.  Specifically, this position must have knowledge of thermodynamic principles involved in storing and vaporizing natural gas.  This position must have a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and cryogenic systems required to operate and maintain an LNG plant.
    This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) under Title 49 CFR Part 382 and Part 40. Any applicant/employee who performs a DOT covered function or is licensed and would operate a commercial vehicle for the Company will be subject to drug and alcohol testing under the Company’s DOT drug and alcohol testing programs. Any employment, transfer, or promotion offer made for this position is contingent upon taking and passing a drug test prior to the commencement of the new role. If an applicant/employee fails the drug test, any offer of employment, transfer, or promotion will be revoked.


    • Support and assist with final facility construction and commissioning of the new LNG storage facility in Tucson, AZ.
    • Coordinate and oversee maintenance activities on LNG Plant facilities and components to ensure safe, reliable, timely and cost-effective vaporization operations
    • Oversee daily plant operations in support of system requirements
    • Procure needed parts, equipment, consumables and materials necessary for liquefaction and vaporization requirements
    • Responsible for conducting the training required of all LNG Plant employees, including operation, maintenance, safety, security and live fire-fighting training, necessary to comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Southwest Gas requirements and to ensure the safety of all Plant employees and the surrounding area
    • Prepare and ensure thorough and accurate documentation of all operations, maintenance, and training activities to demonstrate compliance with applicable codes, standards, policies and procedures
    • Schedule and monitor shifts to ensure proper staffing required to sustain safe and reliable plant operations
    • Collaborate with management and support staff to determine appropriate actions required to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective operation and maintenance of the LNG Plant
    • Conduct public liaison training with the fire department and public safety agencies
    • Direct, motivate, train and evaluate staff members
    • Assist in the preparation and updating of the annual capital budget, three-year budget plan, and monthly yearend projections
    • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
    • Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job

    Minimum Qualifications

    This position requires four to six years of relevant work experience.  Fire Fighting Training, Instructional Delivery Level I certification is required.


    A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management or a related field from an accredited university is preferred.
