Position Information

The Administrator/Compliance position creates value for our customers, employees and shareholders through two key aspects of this role:
- Monitor and initiate programs and procedures to maintain the Company’s compliance with state and federal pipelines safety codes (i.e. CFR Title 49 safety standards and Drug and Alcohol program, DOT safety standards, etc.) as well as internal operations, maintenance, construction and code related customer service standards, policies and practices.
- Act as Company liaison and communicate directly with state and federal pipeline safety agencies (ACC, PUCN, CPUC, DOT) concerning pipeline safety compliance issues; including monitoring, coordinating and responding directly to formal and informal data requests and general inquiries quickly and effectively.
The Administrator/Compliance positions are expected to conduct this work in a manner that aligns with Southwest’s vision of providing safe and reliable gas service and exceptional customer service to its customers and the communities it serves.
This position reports to the Manager/ Engineering Staff/Compliance.


  • Oversee and assist with the coordination and preparation of written responses to state and federal agencies in regard to notices, audit finding, probable violations, and recommendations targeting Company standards, policies, procedures, training programs, employee qualification, etc.
  • Draft and coordinate written correspondence to federal and state agencies for interpretations and waivers from existing code requirements
  • Conduct internal compliance audits of operations, maintenance, construction, technical services, engineering and other code related activities at the division/district level to ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures, determining level of compliance of each operating area based upon audit results and provide representation during external federal and state pipeline safety audits
  • Review and approve contractor’s Drug and Alcohol programs for compliance with CFR Title 49 Parts 199 and 40 and Company requirements
  • Review Company DOT Drug and Alcohol program for compliance with CFR Title 49 Parts 199 and 40
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, industry stakeholders, government and other utilities

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of six years of relevant work experience in natural gas operations, with an emphasis on compliance. 


A Bachelor degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration or Engineering from a recognized program is preferred.


Experience in letter and report writing or technical writing is required.


Demonstrate outstanding oral and written communications skills.


Communicate effectively and efficiently to multiple levels of management including senior management.


Demonstrate the ability to work with internal and external groups to resolve conflict and effectively negotiate the Company’s position.


Knowledge of computer skills including database knowledge and experience.


Demonstrate the ability to manage competing priorities and demanding work schedules.


This position involves travel to various locations inside and outside Southwest’s service territories.  Some work environments may include walking, hiking, climbing through rough terrain, working in inclement weather, and the use of 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Salary Details

$78,622 - $98,277
