Position Information

The Engineer is an individual contributor involved in existing and new facility design and planning within Gas Operations.  The position is also involved in field decisions for the installation/construction of gas facilities.  Responsibilities typically include beginning level gas engineering and/or construction projects.
 
The Engineer II is an individual contributor involved in existing and new facility design and planning within Gas Operations.  This position is also involved in field decisions for the installation/construction of gas facilities.  Responsibilities typically include intermediate to advanced level gas pipeline system engineering.
 
The Transmission Engineer is an individual contributor involved in either existing or new facility design and planning within Gas Operations or coordination and implementation of the Transmission Integrity Management Program.  This position may be involved in field decisions for the installation/construction of transmission gas facilities.  Responsibilities typically include advanced level gas engineering and/or construction projects.
 
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for transmission pipeline integrity management functions.   
 

Responsibilities

Engineer I/II

  • Evaluate municipality, other utility and private developer plans to assess the need for facility modifications
  • Design and manage projects according to Company and government specifications
  • Prepare parts lists, bills of material, and cost estimates
  • Conduct computer simulations/network analyses to test facility designs or evaluate gas system integrity
  • Conduct research related to facility qualification and upratings
  • Evaluate and select optimum design alternatives
  • Perform preliminary engineering analysis necessary to investigate new projects
  • Perform engineering calculations
  • Prepare cost estimates on proposed design projects
  • Review completed designs
  • Coordinate projects with other work groups and departments
  • Communicate project status to appropriate departments
  • Maintain data in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Write technical instructions and procedures
  • Research information on material, equipment and related costs for project activities
  • Assist with long-term planning initiatives
  • Coordinate and provide engineering oversight of construction projects
  • Coordinate environmental, permitting and Right of Way requirements
  • Review and evaluate Operations and Maintenance Compliance Records
  • Assist with emergency response activities. Be subject to “on-call” duty as needed
  • Provide technical guidance to non-exempt engineering employees
  • Review and evaluate Operations and Maintenance Compliance records
  • Project Manage basic Engineering Department projects
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Transmission Engineer

 

Design Activities

  • Facilitate the preparation of project designs according to Company specifications
  • Facilitate and prepare parts lists and bills of material
  • Evaluate municipality, other utility and private developer plans to assess the need for facility modifications
  • Conduct or facilitate computer simulations/network analyses to test facility designs or evaluate gas system integrity
  • Prepare and assess project requests detailing proposed engineering work costs and project timetable
  • Conduct research related to facility qualification and upratings
  • Evaluate and select optimum design alternatives
  • Perform and review preliminary engineering analysis necessary to investigate new projects
  • Perform and validate engineering calculations
  • Prepare and justify cost estimates on proposed design projects
  • Review and approve completed designs
  • Facilitate and prepare work requests
  • Determine necessary design requirements to recommend equipment, materials and procedures to be used to maximize system effectiveness and minimize cost
  • Communicate project status to appropriate departments
  • Maintain and evaluate data in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Communicate conditions that warrant consideration for potential change or improvement
  • Write and review technical instructions
  • Specify and initiate purchase requisitions
  • Research information on material, equipment and related costs for project activities
  • Develop long-term planning initiatives
  • Supervise and/or provide direction to immediate subordinates
  • Develop engineering project plans
  • Review contracts before their execution
  • Conduct and review feasibility studies
  • Conceptualize facility design requirements

Operations and Maintenance Activities

  • Review and evaluate Operations and Maintenance Compliance records
  • Maintain facility operations and maintenance records
  • Identify and recommend instrumentation solutions
  • Identify and recommend solutions related to cathodic protection and measurement and control systems
  • Assist with emergency response activities – Be subject to “on-call” duty as needed
  • Conduct and evaluate statistical analysis of Operations and Maintenance activities
  • Coordinate Quality Assurance activities
  • Perform and validate engineering calculations
  • Communicate project status to appropriate departments
  • Maintain data in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Communicate conditions that warrant consideration for potential change or improvement
  • Write technical instructions
  • Prepare and review operating manuals and/or guidelines for new equipment, materials and/or facilities
  • Specify and initiate purchase requisitions
  • Research and evaluate material, equipment and related costs for project activities
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Construction Activities

  • Provide technical direction for the construction and modification of gas facilities
  • Direct outside contractors to carry out specific construction and maintenance assignments
  • Coordinate and provide oversight to construction projects
  • Implement project planning and monitoring methods to ensure timely completion
  • Monitor project costs
  • Supervise the assembly and installation of equipment and/or facilities
  • Keep abreast of all Company construction and O&M standards
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer I - This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Civil
or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.  Other Engineering degrees may be considered. This position requires the incumbent to possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Engineer II - This position requires one to three years of relevant work experience and a bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. Other Engineering degrees may be considered. This position requires the incumbent to possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Transmission Engineer - There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires three to five years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited university. Area(s) of specialization may dictate a specific engineering discipline.
